First look at Hank Zipzer

$

0
Newcomer Nick James stars alongside Henry ‘The Fonz’ Winkler in the brand-new comedy drama series, Hank Zipzer which comes to CBBC this January.

Nick (represented by D&B Management), who had to dye his hair for the role, said: "Playing Hank has been absolutely amazing. I’ve been able to do a multitude of things I’ve never done before and this has been my biggest part to date, so it has been exciting and scary all at once. I have got to meet so many interesting and lovely people in the three months I’ve been away acting."
He added, "It has been very hard work. I’m in nearly all the scenes and then I’ve had to try and keep up with all my school work as well – my mum is really strict about this which is super annoying. It’s not been easy but it’s been a lot of fun.
I have loved filming in Halifax and meeting all the cast and crew has been awesome, especially Henry Winkler who filmed in Halifax with us for two weeks. It’s been really different for me living away from home from Monday to Friday – a bit like boarding school I guess! "

The 13x30-minute series - which is inspired by the book series Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever– is based on Henry Winkler’s own experiences as a young boy growing up with dyslexia. Fast paced and funny, the series follows the everyday life of 12-year-old Hank Zipzer, a young man with a unique perspective on the world.

Hank is a boy whose glass is always half full… he just sometimes spills it everywhere. When problems arise he deals with them in a way no-one else would, which often sets him on a collision course with teachers, parents and his homework. Despite not always seeing eye to eye with everyone else, Hank has a big heart and always remains positive and hopeful that next time his plan will pay off. But, there’s usually a trail of chaos to clear up first…
From landing himself (and his classroom) in hot water – literally! – to ending up being pelted with tomatoes; trying out for the school play, to attempting to create the world’s scariest haunted house, there’s never a dull moment when Hank is around. With the help of his best friends, Frankie and Ashley, the young boy with the big heart goes on a multitude of mischievous adventures, but often ends up learning a valuable lesson or two along with way.

Henry Winkler plays music teacher Mr Rock (Henry’s real life teacher) . He said: “This series is certainly inspired by my childhood and the experiences I had because I learned differently to other people – but it’s a comedy first. The emotion is completely relatable but we exaggerate the humour. When I was young, teachers and other people used to tell me I’d never achieve anything because I’m in the bottom three percent academically in America. I never thought I’d be able to write books, let alone to have them made into a TV show. Outside of having my children, the Hank Zipzer series makes me incredibly proud.”

Hank Zipzer comes to CBBC this January, date and time to be confirmed.

Grandpa in my Pocket returns with two new young stars

CBeebies' BAFTA-nominated series Grandpa in my Pocket returns for a fourth series with two new young stars.

Sezen Djouma plays  Elsie and Harvey Thorn is Josh, who come to stay for the summer and the now teenage Jason (played by Jay Ruckley) lets them in on my secret life.

James Bolam, one of the country’s favourite actors, returns as Grandpa but in this series he has new grandchildren in tow. He said of the young cast members:

"I think Harvey is brilliant as Josh and Sezen is absolutely delightful as Elsie. They were both a little nervous at the start, but they soon settled in and licked all us adults into shape. They’re both so natural, and keen, so a real pleasure to work with. They really "live" the stories. It's been a fantastic experience for them both working with such an experienced cast and they've learned a lot.

And Jason and Jemima are both still in this series too which gives the whole thing such great continuity. It was lovely to film with Jay (who plays Jason) again but I got a bit of a shock on the first day when this teenager walked in! I’d almost forgotten it’s been about three years since we filmed the last series. But we picked up where we’d left off really and that was grand. And Josie Cable, who plays Jemima, has really blossomed too and gives a lovely performance."

Grandson Jason is now a teenager, so it’s the turn of cousins Josh and Elsie to discover the secret of their Grandpa’s magic Shrinking Cap. The family has moved to a delightful windmill - The Mill on the Marsh - which they run as a small hotel. As various bizarre guests turn up, Grandpa has to shrink to save the day. He flies off in Josh’s toy helicopter or on Elsie’s Mrs Ostrich, creating chaos all over Sunnysands.

The 52 new episodes of Grandpa in my Pocket will return to CBeebies this January, date and time to be confirmed.

First look at Outnumbered Series 5

0
Outnumbered is set to return for a fifth series this year. Apart from a Christmas Special, the last full series was back in 2011 and the new series show just how much those Brockman kids have grown, including a new hair colour for Karen.

Beleaguered parents Pete (Hugh Dennis) and Sue (Claire Skinner) continue to battle through life both within and outside of their hectic household. Sue has a brand new office job and, predictably, struggles to maintain an aura of composure with her three growing offspring to contend with back home, while Pete is besieged by unreliable technologies.

Jake (played by 17 year old Tyger Drew-Honey) is sporting a new tattoo - of sorts - and is getting behind the wheel to learn to drive.

Tone-deaf Ben (played by the now 14 year old Daniel Roche) is set to take the lead in his school play - a musical version of Spartacus.

Karen (12 year old Ramona Marquez), once the baby of the family, has taken the decision to no longer be blonde as she starts secondary school and, unsurprisingly, soon finds herself arguing with just about everyone, including her new head teacher.

Created and written by Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, this is expected to be the last series of Outnumbered, but no final decision has been made.

Series 5 will air on BBC One later this month, date to be confirmed.

First look at Jessica Brown Findlay in Jamaica Inn

$

Jessica Brown Findlay stars as Mary Yellan in the new BBC adaptation of Daphne du Maurier’s gothic novel Jamaica Inn, written by Emma Frost.

23 year old Jessica (represented by Troika) made her film debut in the coming-of-age drama Albatross. She played Lady Sybil Crawley in Downton Abbey, went on to star in Labyrinth, and will next be seen playing Rachel in Lone Sherfig's Posh.

Set in 1820 against the forbidding backdrop of windswept Cornish moors, the story follows the journey of young and spirited Mary who is forced to live with her Aunt Patience after the death of her mother. Mary arrives at the isolated Jamaica Inn to discover her Aunt is a shell of the carefree woman she remembers from her childhood, and instead finds a drudge who is firmly under the spell of her domineering husband Joss.
The Inn has no guests - the rooms are locked and kept for storage - but it soon becomes clear that it’s a cover, as Joss is the leader of a smuggling ring, and Jamaica Inn the hub of his ‘free’ trade.
As Mary gets drawn into the dangerous world of smuggling, she finds herself attracted to Jem Merlyn, Joss’s roughly handsome younger brother. But he stands for everything that Mary despises and worse, she fears that he’s involved in Joss’s gang. Mary’s morals and loyalties become deeply conflicted. Who can she trust? Can she even trust herself?
Seeking guidance, Mary visits the parish vicar, Francis Davey, and his sister Hannah. But can they help her to navigate this dangerous new world and do the right thing, or will she lose herself in everybody else’s criminality? When Mary finds herself in peril for her own life, she is tested to the core and she’s forced to find out what she’s really made of.

Made for the BBC One by Origin Pictures the 3x60-minute drama is directed by BAFTA-winning director Philippa Lowthorpe (Call The Midwife, Five Daughters).

Filming took place on location in Cornwall, Yorkshire and Cumbria and Jamaica Inn is due to hit our screens later this year.

Craig Roberts and Gethin Anthony star in ALT, a new 60-minute pilot for E4, written by Jamie Mathieson (Being Human) and directed by Ben Caron (My Mad Fat Diary).

Gethin Anthony (represented by United Agents) plays 24 year old Danny who finds himself transported to a parallel universe. Gethin studied English Literature at Oxford University before training at LAMDA. He starred as Renly in Game of Thrones.

22 year old Craig Roberts plays Danny's stoner and waster ex-best friend Milo. Craig (represented by Curtis Brown) started out in children's TV but has worked constantly since his breakout role in Submarine.

Imagine: that mate you dumped months ago because he's a tool, rings you out of the blue and asks for help. You go round and he's tripping. Banging on about parallel worlds and killers with swords and you're not really listening to be honest.
And the next thing you know the world's changed. Literally changed. Your girlfriend, who was kind of the love of your life, no longer even recognises you. Dead relatives are suddenly alive again. And someone who looks just like you is living your life. Badly.

The dangerous assassins intent on hunting them down are played by Jason Flemyng (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, X Men: First Class) and Arsher Ali (Four Lions). With Danny desperate to get back to his girlfriend Suzy (played by Roxanne McKee) before it’s too late and he loses her forever, he and Milo embark on a series of darkly comic and dangerous adventures in an effort to get back home.

Commissioner Beth Willis describes ALT as "a mind-bendingly funny pilot for E4 from the pen of Jamie Mathieson and directed by the brilliant Ben Caron. Milo and Danny are wonderful and useless and loveable. Expect the unexpected - and lots of laughs."

The cast also includes Ukweli Roach as Pete, and Chanel Cresswell (This is England) as Cat, and was cast  by Catherine Willis.

Produced by Mammoth Screen, ALT started shooting this month and is expected to air on E4 in Spring 2014.

In a first-person ‘selfie’ style of shooting, the show follows teen Shari, whose entire life is on Dixi: from chatting to friends and sharing pictures to posting funny vlogs. This social network is her life. That is, until her page is defaced, her password changed and she is locked out. To Shari, it’s the end of the world, but with the help of her closest friends she sets out to discover who hacked Dixi and ‘murdered’ her profile page.
