The Disney Channel has teamed up with Lime Pictures, makers of Nickelodeon's House of Anubis, to film the first live-action Disney series to be shot in the UK.

The four-part supernatural series called Evermoor will tell the story of a 14-year-old girl, Tara Bailey, uprooted from her urban American home to move to rural "middle England" with her best-selling novelist mother and British stepfather, with the blended family of four children soon discovering all is not what it seems.

Evermoor will be filmed in a studio in Warrington and on location in Cheshire's Arley Hall which will become "Evermoor Manor".

David Levine, vice president of programming, production and strategic development for Disney Channels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said: "It gives us a great opportunity to work with British talent both in front and behind of the camera.

"We will take full advantage of the fact it is a series set in a British village, with an incredible British backdrop and location at the heart of the story. You'll see a lot of imagery and settings that will be very different to things we have done before but it is produced for a global audience."

The series, described by Disney as a "mystery adventure punctuated with comedy", will air this autumn, and will be shown on the Disney Channel in more than 160 countries.

Urban and The Shed Crew

12 year old Fraser Kelly (represented by Red Hot Entertainment) leads the cast of Urban and the Shed Crew, an adaptation of the book by Bernard Hare,  described as a tale of heroin and cement, set in Britain’s underclass in the 90’s, which is currently filming in Leeds.

Ex-social worker Bernard Hare is introduced to the Shed Crew – an anarchic gang of kids between the ages of ten and fourteen; joy-riding, thieving runaways, no strangers to drugs or sex

Fraser stars alongside Richard Armitage as Chop, Anna Friel as Greta, Neil Morrissey, Kathryn Drysdale, and Charlie Heaton plays Urban's brother Frank.

Twelve-year old Urban Grimshaw is Britains’ most runaway child, he’s even been on TV’s Crimewatch. His mother is a junkie and his father might as well be dead. He can’t read or write, and he doesn’t go to school. His average day is spent sitting round a bonfire with his mates smoking drugs and stealing cars. When he meets his mother’s new friend Chop’, a 37 year old, disillusioned, ex-social worker also living on society’s margins, on one of Leeds’ roughest estates the two become firm friends. But even ‘Chop’ with his own penchant for drink, drugs and hard living is shocked by the state of Urban’s life. After much soul searching, he resolves to clean up his own act and do his utmost to save the kid. But as their friendship deepens, Urban introduces him to the Shed Crew – the anarchic gang of kids between the ages of ten and fourteen; joy-riding, thieving runaways, no strangers to drugs or sex and it’s only then that we see exactly how long the road to civilization really is.

When ex-social worker Bernard Hare turned his startling experiences with a group of young delinquents into a novel it was described as one of the year’s most compelling and best selling books. “Urban and the Shed Crew” is a stunning piece of ethnography described by ‘The Guardian’ as “moving but never sanctimonious, another City of God, this time for Britain rather than Brazil.”

Urban and The Shed Crew is directed by Candida Brady for Blenheim Films.

Shooting has begun this week in Berkshire on Glue, a brand new original series created and written by BAFTA-winning writer Jack Thorne (This is England, Skins, The Fades) for E4.

E4 has brought together some of Britain’s brightest young talent from film, TV, stage and music to star in the new series including:

Yasmin Paige, star of critically-acclaimed feature Submarine;

Jessie Cave, best known as Lavender Brown in Harry Potter;

Waterloo Road and The Sarah Jane Adventures actor Tommy Lawrence Knight;

Faye Marsay, who stole Howard’s heart as new housemate Candice in Channel 4’s Fresh Meat;

The young cast also features:

Jordan Stephens, platinum-selling hip-hop duo Rizzle Kicks, making his acting debut:

Callum Turner who recently starred opposite Helen McCrory in ITV drama Leaving;

Charlotte Spencer last seen as Carly Kirk in BBC Two’s Line of Duty;

Tommy McDonnell, currently in cinemas in acclaimed British prison film Starred Up;

and Bristol Old Vic graduate Billy Howle, currently on screen in Channel 4’s New Worlds.

The series will also star Kerry Fox (Bright Star), Jonny Owen (Shameless), Kierston Wareing (Luther), and Steve Oram (Sightseers)

Overton. A tiny village in the English countryside. Farming is its beating heart. Race-horses are its bread-and-butter. But beyond the rolling hills and behind the stable doors lies a green and not-so-pleasant land...

Bored kids play chicken on top of silo machines that can cut your hand to slices no thicker than the ham in your sandwich. The same kids play at grain-barn-jumping – deadly, if your lungs fill up with the tiny bullets of wheat. Now someone has played murder.

When the body of a local teenage boy is found underneath the wheels of a tractor, the villagers in this remote community – his friends – are forced to open up their world and watch their secrets spill out. Secrets that will change their particular brand of country life forever.

Twisted and wayward, tragic and comic, Glue will take E4 audiences on a wild and thrilling ride as the mystery of his murder unravels.

Sophie Gardiner, Channel 4 Commissioning Editor, says: “The team at Eleven have pulled together an incredible cast for Jack’s thrilling scripts – the line-up reads like a roll-call of some of the brightest up-and-coming talent around. We can’t wait for them to bring our bold new series to life. Brace yourselves for a trip to the countryside…E4-style.”

She added “Glue follows in the proud tradition of E4 showing the most original and exciting drama for young audiences. This is E4’s first whodunit drama, adding murder and mystery to the range of shows, from My Mad Fat Diary to Youngers, on the channel’s slate of new British drama series.”

The eight 60-minute episodes, produced by Eleven Film, are scheduled to air this Autumn on E4.

Girl's Night Out

After over three years in development and several cast changes along the way, Girl's Night Out, the fictionalised story of of when a teenage Princess Margaret and her sister Elizabeth sneak out of Buckingham Palace to join the mammoth crowds gathered along the Mall and outside the palace to celebrate VE Day, is finally set to start shooting this month.

Where once Dakota Fanning, Juno Temple and Alexandra Roach were attached to play the young princesses, the roles are now to be played by Sarah Gadon as Elizabeth and Bel Powley as Margaret.

27 year old Canadian actress Gadon, seems an unlikely choice to play our future queen, but she has just finished filming on another international co-production The Girl King, the story of Sweden’s 17th century Queen Kristina.

21 year old Bel Powley (represented by BWH), who has recently filmed the lead role in coming-of-age feature The Diary Of A Teenage Girl, will play the young fun-loving Margaret.

Bel, the daughter of casting director Janis Jaffa and actor Mark Powley, started acting as a child, when she starred in the first two series of popular CBBC drama M.I. High, before appearing alongside Robbie Coltrane in ITV's Murderland, and more recently sitcom Benidorm. Her theatre roles have included Royal Court productions Tusk Tusk and Jumpy, as well as appearing on Broadway in Tom Stoppard's Arcadia.

Rupert Everett and Emily Watson will portray George VI and Queen Elizabeth, with 22 year old Irish actor Jack Reynor  (represented by MacFarlane Chard), who played the title role in Lenny Abrahamson's What Richard Did, as a young soldier who looks out for Elizabeth on the big night.

Shooting begins on Monday on locations at Chatsworth and Belvoir Castle.

Harriet's Army

My Mad Fat Diary star Ciara Baxendale (represented by Cole Kitchenn) leads the cast as Harriet in a new 3-part drama for CBBC, Harriet's Army.

She is joined by 18 year old Sophie Wright (who played Tix in the first series of My Mad Fat Diary) as Violet Croft, with Harriet's brothers being played by Ben Ryan-Davies as Edward, and Max True as Sam. The ensemble cast also includes James Baxter as Stephen Croft, Matthew McGreevy as Jimmy, and Adam Thomas Wright as Lewis Brown.

Harriet's Army is a gripping new three-part CBBC drama series, set during World War One and following a group of children in a small English town as they hold the Home Front and discover the true enemy within.

Fourteen-year-old Hattie is a girl who doesn’t fit in, and when she’s kicked out of the Girl Guides for getting involved in a fight, her father doesn’t know what to do with her. As war breaks out and the efforts of the Scouts and Guides are volunteered in support of the war, Harriet feels sidelined and forms her own ‘army’ of misfits, mounting their own patrols and searching for German spies.

Hattie's Army highlights the astonishing and genuinely important role played by the children and young people who were left behind when their fathers and brothers went to fight in the trenches.

Directed by Stewart Svaasand, produced by Foz Allen, and written by Guy Burt, filming on the new series has just wrapped in Newcastle.

Two young actors lead the cast of The Passing Bells, a new five-part First World War drama for BBC One which is about to start filming in Poland.

The series has been written by Tony Jordan (Hustle, Life On Mars) and commissioned as part of the BBC’s programming to mark the Centenary of the First World War. The drama sees the conflict of the First World War unfold through the eyes of two very ordinary young men, both of whom have enlisted in a war they expect will be over within months

Irish actor 18 year old Patrick Gibson stars as Thomas and Jack Lowden as Michael, two young men for whom the war has little mercy, no matter which side they might be fighting for. Over five chronological years, we follow their lives as they grow up, lose friends and find love amid the horrors of the war.

Patrick Gibson (represented by ARG) played Curly in Sky's Neverland and also appeared in the award-winning What Richard Did. He comes from a family of actors, and made his first appearance at the age of five in a short film entitled Bye Bye Inkhead. He has just wrapped filming on horror/drama The Cherry Tree.

23 year old Scottish actor Jack Lowden (represented by Conway Van Gelder) is a graduate of RSAMD, and starred as Adam in Anglo/French production The Tunnel. He won Best Supporting Actor at the Olivier Awards this year for his portrayal of Oswald in the Almeida Theatre's production of Ghosts.

Alongside them, a cast of young British and German actors play their supporting battalions, including Charles Furness, Brian Fletcher, Wilf Scolding, Hubert Burton, Felix Auer, Ben McGregor, Mark Burghagen and Matthew Aubrey.

Brendan Maher will direct for Tony Jordan’s independent production company Red Planet Pictures and Apple Film Production through BBC Cymru Wales Drama.
