Fantasy action drama Wolfblood returns to CBBC on September 9th for a fast-paced second series, following the lives of
teenagers Maddy and Rhydian and their secret lives as wolfbloods.
The 13x30-minute series follows the two seemingly ordinary teenagers who are secretly part of the mysterious wolfblood race who have lived amongst us for centuries, disguising their abilities and blending in. Fans have an extra treat this time too as, in addition to the 13 episodes on CBBC, there will also be an exclusive‘secret’ 14th episode which will be shown on the CBBC Red Button and on the CBBC website, plus a brand new Wolfblood game which will also be on the CBBC website.
The intense trials and tribulations of school, friendships, heartbreak and mystery continue in this second series, as Rhydian unexpectedly returns to Stoneybridge putting Maddy and her family in danger.
Spencer Campbell, Wolfblood’s executive producer, said: “We had a great reaction to the first series and are looking forward to introducing some exciting new characters this time round. Series two is packed full of surprises. Maddy and Rhydian are still learning about who they are, whilst trying to avoid discovery, and I think they have grown up a lot. It may be complicated being a teenager, but it's even more difficult when you’re a wolfblood teenager!”
Wolfblood stars Bobby Lockwood (Rhydian), Aimee Kelly (Maddy), Louisa Connolly-Burnham (Shannon) and Kedar Williams-Stirling (Tom) and was filmed entirely on location in Northumberland.
Wolfblood was created by Debbie Moon and is a co-production between CBBC and ZDF/ZDFE.
Q&A with Bobby Lockwood (Rhydian)
What’s it like being back filming series 2?
Great! I really missed all the guys and this series is amazing.
Were you surprised by the success of series one?
A bit. I think we were all aware of the potential of the show but it’s great to see that people seemed to love it.
For anyone who hasn’t seen Wolfblood, can you give a bit of background to bring them up to speed?
It is set in Stonybridge, a little village that has a Wolfblood family (humans who can transform into wolves). The show is about how the Wolfbloods try to live normal lives and keep their secret.
What can viewers expect from the second series?
A lot more drama - and a lot more wolves!
Has Rhydian changed much in this series?
A lot has happened to him and I think he has grown up. The wild wasn’t exactly good to him but it taught him a lot.
Are you still enjoying playing Rhydian? Is it a challenge?
I love playing him. He is quite a complex character especially for a kid’s show, so can be quite tough at times but is always great fun.
What’s his relationship with Maddy like in this series?
They are still very close but you’ll have to tune in to see how they get on in this series!
Are there any new characters you can tell us about?
You’ll be introduced to some of the wild pack. They’re a crazy bunch!
What’s it like playing a Wolfblood? How do you get in the right frame of mind?
There are quite a lot of growls and frowns before action to get you thinking…
What’s the best thing about being in Wolfblood?
Definitely the cast and crew. It’s a really close group of hard working people who all want to make a great show.
If you were a Wolfblood in real life, what would be the first thing you would do?
Probably scare my older brother!

Q&A with Aimee Kelly (Maddy)
What can we expect from the new series of Wolfblood?
Lots of new storylines and new, exciting characters…
Did you think the first series would be as popular as it was?
We didn’t know it was going to be as big as it was - I guess we just tried our best. We’re really pleased that people liked it.
For those who haven’t seen the show, can you tell us a bit about your character Maddy?
She’s adventurous, brave and the leader, but she is also always pulled back by the need to do the right thing.
Has she changed much since the start of the first series?
Yes, a lot! The situations she’s been put in have made her grow up. She has matured a lot in this series.
Where do you film the series?
In and around a place called Rowlands Gill near Newcastle upon Tyne.
What’s a typical day like on set?
Fast-paced, fun, and a good atmosphere. Oh, and sometimes cold!
How do you get on with Bobby, who plays Rhydian?
We’re best friends. He always says he was hired to keep me in line!
Is it difficult to act when special effects are added in post production? Do you need a good imagination to picture the wolves in the shot?
It was odd at first but you learn to see the tennis ball - they use a tennis ball for us to focus on, representing where the wolf would be – as a character.
Can you share any secret snippets from series two to tempt us into watching?
I think the main thing is that Maddy and Rydian have a lot of obstacles to face… a LOT!
