Channel 4 has announced the cast set to star as young idealists in a major new four-part historical drama New Worlds.
Set in the turbulent 1680s, the drama takes place on both sides of the Atlantic, as two young men and two young women commit their lives to a fairer future with blood, passion and urgency. New Worlds is described as a gripping story of love and loss and the human price paid for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Scottish Skins actress Freya Mavor plays Beth, the daughter of Angelica, the Countess of Abingdon (played by Eve Best), sheltering at Fanshawe House from a country yet again on the brink of chaos under the tyrannical rule of Charles II. Freya (represented by Hamilton Hodell) can currently be seen in BBC historical drama The White Queen and stars in two Scotland-based films, Not Another Happy Ending and Dexter Fletcher's Sunshine on Leith.
Northern Irish actor 31 year old Jamie Dornan, recently seen starring in The Fall, plays Abe, an outlaw and idealist, who breaks into Beth's sheltered world and jolts her into consciousness, asking if she can standby as the liberties won with her father’s Civil War blood are destroyed?
Meanwhile across the Atlantic in New England the colonists struggle to throw off the distant but steely control of the English Crown, and two young idealists Hope and Ned find themselves on the brutal frontline.

Hope is played by New Zealander Alice Englert (represented by Hamilton Hodell), the daughter of Jane Campion, who starred as Rosa in Sally Potter's Ginger and Rosa, as well as supernatural love story Beautiful Creatures.
Her fellow colonist Ned, is played by Joe Dempsie. Joe (represented by Troika) played Chris in the original cast of Skins, and currently plays Gendry in HBO's Game of Thrones, he can next be seen in upcoming Channel 4 drama Southcliffe.
Written and created by Peter Flannery (Our Friends In The North) and Martine Brant and produced by Company Pictures (Skins, Shameless, Elizabeth 1, The White Queen) for Channel 4, New Worlds follows on from their 2008 BAFTA-nominated series The Devil’s Whore.

The combination of Peter and Martine’s scripts and Charles Martin’s direction has attracted a diverse and glittering cast and we’re greatly looking forward to seeing their work brought to the screen”
Filming will start in the UK this month with directorCharles Martin (Skins, Run) at the helm.
Transmission of the four one-hour episodes will be on Channel 4 in 2014.
