TV newcomer Elliot Sprakes from Sheffield has landed the title role in Billionaire Boy, the latest adaptation of one of David Walliams' childrens books, which will be screened at Christmas.

The hour-long special is the fourth BBC adaptation of a Walliams novel, and follows the successes of Gangsta Granny, Mr Stink and The Boy In The Dress.

Filming begins next week in Sheffield and Rotherham for broadcast this Christmas on BBC One. Local school children from Oakwood High School, Rotherham, have also been cast to appear in the production as Joe’s class mates.

Elliot (represented by Cieka Bailey Associates) plays 12 year old Joe, the son of Len (played by John Thomson) who has made a billion by invented a new toilet roll. Joe appears to have everything he could want but what he really needs is a friend. This is Elliot's first major TV role, he recently filmed a CBBC pilot Scraps.

Playing Joe’s shy and very nervous head teacher is James Fleet, while Rebecca Front plays Joe’s firm but fair, opera-loving teacher. There’s also an appearance from Warwick Davis playing himself in the role of Len and Joe’s celebrity butler.

David Walliams plays Mrs Trafe, a dinner lady at Joe’s school who is described as dirty and old and who is dreadful at cooking. There will also be a cameo performance from a very special mystery celebrity guest.

He said: “I am thrilled we have put together another all-star cast of comedy greats for this adaptation. The script is bigger and better than the book and I am excited for everyone to see it on BBC One at Christmas.”

Executive producer for the BBC Gregor Sharp said: “David Walliams' books are a magical combination of memorable characters and brilliantly colourful story so we couldn't happier to be bringing Billionaire Boy to BBC One this Christmas."
