Two young actors lead the cast of The Passing Bells, a new five-part First World War drama for BBC One which is about to start filming in Poland.
The series has been written by Tony Jordan (Hustle, Life On Mars) and commissioned as part of the BBC’s programming to mark the Centenary of the First World War. Irish actor 18 year old Patrick Gibson stars as Thomas and Jack Lowden as Michael, two young men for whom the war has little mercy, no matter which side they might be fighting for. Over five chronological years, we follow their lives as they grow up, lose friends and find love amid the horrors of the war.
Patrick Gibson (represented by ARG) played Curly in Sky's Neverland and also appeared in the award-winning What Richard Did. He comes from a family of actors, and made his first appearance at the age of five in a short film entitled Bye Bye Inkhead. He has just wrapped filming on horror/drama The Cherry Tree.

23 year old Scottish actor Jack Lowden (represented by Conway Van Gelder) is a graduate of RSAMD, and starred as Adam in Anglo/French production The Tunnel. He won Best Supporting Actor at the Olivier Awards this year for his portrayal of Oswald in the Almeida Theatre's production of Ghosts.

Guildford School of Acting graduate Sabrina Bartlett (represented by Shepherd Management) plays Katie, one of the young men’s love interests, anxiously waiting back home for news from the front, as does Polish actress Eryka Karkuszewska.
Alongside them, a cast of young British and German actors play their supporting battalions, including Charles Furness, Brian Fletcher, Wilf Scolding, Hubert Burton, Felix Auer, Ben McGregor, Mark Burghagen and Matthew Aubrey.
Brendan Maher will direct for Tony Jordan’s independent production company Red Planet Pictures and Apple Film Production through BBC Cymru Wales Drama.
The Passing Bells will also be shown on Poland’s national broadcaster (TVP) in November 2014 to coincide with celebrations to mark the rebirth of the Polish nation at the end of World War One.
